Week 11- Independent Research Reflection

I think the information I learned about this week greatly expanded my understanding of the relationship between equity and mindfulness. I found that the article I read and took notes on over equitable mindfulness in schools did a great job of laying out ways teachers can work to incorporate appropriate mindfulness in the classroom and school-wide. I think mindfulness can be a very powerful tool for students to learn and use as many students, especially students who are in advanced courses, deal with burnout, high levels of stress, and anxiety. By educating teachers on how mindfulness can be more considerate of their student's needs, the practice becomes more inclusive, and more students will be able to benefit from the exercises.

I would like to do more research about mindfulness in schools, specifically on how teachers can be more trauma-informed with teaching meditations in class. I can't think of any specific questions currently, but I would like to continue in this area of research going forward!

  1. How would you like to see school systems go about educating teachers on how mindfulness can be used correctly?

  2. Putting an emphasis on the importance of eliminating or working against racial bias in the classroom is a vital component in educating teachers about mindfulness. I think mindfulness is a powerful tool and can be especially helpful to students if a teacher is properly educated on how their language, biases, and practice choices impact their students each individually.
