Week 6 Science of Happiness- Reflection

I feel that I learned a lot of valuable information this week. I was interested in learning more about self-compassion before I began the course when I was looking at the overview of information, and this week certainly did not disappoint. Learning about self-compassion has extended my knowledge as it connected the idea that our attitude and outlook on life have a massive impact on our reality and how we react to situations. This learning also taught me the importance of how you treat yourself and how you speak to yourself in your mind. I will be applying many parts of what I learned this week to my life as I think more self-compassion would positively impact my productivity, psychological health, and relationships.

I don’t have any specific questions regarding what I learned this week. I would, however, be interested in learning about how children can learn to be more self-compassionate from a young age and what schools could do to encourage self-compassion. Maybe this could be included in social-emotional learning some elementary schools engage in. I think teaching kids to be gentler on themselves from a young age could be an immense impact on productivity, wellness, mental health, and overall happiness in schools.

  1. How would you like to see schools teach self-compassion? How would you address this with high school students?

  2. I discussed this in my last reply, but teaching kids the value of how they speak to themselves. Reminding students the importance of self compassion and rest would be a great start to address self-compassion in high schools.
